Description

The Castle of San Giusto stands on the highest point of the hill with the same name, and from here it dominates Trieste and its ancient port.

The history of the Castle follows the vicissitudes of the city changing functions and appearance depending on the different rulers (Romans, Venetians, Austrians), until it nowadays is a municipal museum where you can visit the cells, the house of the captain and the original Mikeze and Jakeze: the two statues that beat the big bell placed on top of the Town Hall in Piazza Unità d'Italia. The Castle now looks like a building surrounded by large bastions and connecting walls from which you can enjoy a wonderful view. More and more often it is used as a location for cultural events, shows and temporary exhibitions.
