Description
The Jewish Temple in Trieste is one of the largest, most majestic in Europe. It was built between 1908 and 1912 to bring together the congregations of four smaller synagogues, and it is characterised by oriental influences that can be seen in its mullioned windows, columns, carvings and the characteristic rose windows depicting the Star of David. Before Mussolini announced the racial laws from the balcony of the Town Hall in Piazza Unità, the Jewish community of Trieste boasted 6,000 people.
