Our walk takes about 45 minutes and starts from the aqueduct building (under the town of Santa Croce) to finish in Aurisina. Extremely simple, it develops without major slopes, through a comfortable gravel path. Initially we will be able to enjoy the smell and shade of the large pine forest which then, a little at a time, will leave room for the typical Mediterranean vegetation where, especially in autumn, the flaming red of the sumac (actually scotano) stands out. gives a fiery frame of colors. At the end of the walk, just before the parking lot, we will find on our left the signs for the "Sentiero dei Pescatori", another fantastic panoramic route, used in the past by the fishermen of the plateau to reach the underlying beach of Canovella degli Zoppoli (to see it we recommend to open the dedicated tab). During the walk there are NO fountains, so it is recommended to have a bottle of water with you.
There are several ways to reach the trail:
- By car, we recommend that you take the opposite route, starting from Aurisina where we will find a small parking lot.
- By public transport you must use line 44 (departure from Piazza Oberdan).
- For those who opt for the bicycle, we strongly recommend avoiding the climb between the coastal road and the town of Santa Croce, preferring the less demanding Via del Pucino. We can take the Via del Pucino at the beginning of the Coastal Road, after having passed the Grignano intersection, proceeding on the right into Via Livia and from there into Via del Pucino. This small road will allow us to skirt the Coastal Road from above, in a quieter and less busy way up to halfway from the famous ramp. The start of the Sage Trail will be on our right. Once you have covered the entire path, we can opt to return to Trieste along the Karst state road to Prosecco, and from there go down the famous Strada del Friuli to the Trieste Central Train Station. The complete tour from Trieste to the entrance of the Salvia path up to Aurisina and the return is done by bike in about 3.5 hours.
