Description

Tor Cucherna is a medieval tower dating back to the XIV century, used for night surveillance of the city walls.

The name derives from the German "gucken", to peek. The entire city wall of Trieste was destroyed in 1719, after the proclamation of the Free Port, to allow the city to expand, but the tower was spared because it was transformed into a dwelling. The current appearance dates back to 1910, the year in which it was converted into a Tower.
