Description
We reached the top!
Now we can rest at the foot of the castle, observing what is considered the most ancient nucleus of the Roman Trieste, built at the time of Julius Caesar with the name of Tergeste. The large square, brought to light during the excavations of 1929, makes us understand the importance of the original Basilica of which the columns, partly reconstructed, are still visible. At one of the corners of the square we find, as an everlasting memory, the great monument dedicated to the Fallen of the First World War. Going down the stairs under the monument, flanking the castle, begins the park of the Rimembranza that then leads to the famous "Scala dei Giganti" (Giants’ Staircase).
