Description
The Joyce Passage is the new bridge that joins the banks of the Grand Canal, thereby creating a single long pedestrian and cycle path that connects the Central Train Station to Piazza Unità' d'Italia. The bridge is dedicated to Irish writer James Joyce, who lived in Trieste while writing his most famous work, entitled ‘Ulysses’. The elegant, light structure is made of steel and glass, with inserts of Istrian stone. It is also jokingly referred to as ‘Ponte Curto’ (short bridge) by the people of Trieste because of an alleged error discovered at the time of its laying, which resulted in a longer completion time.
