Description
The Cathedral of San Giusto is the main religious Catholic building in Trieste resulting from the union of 2 churches that occurred between 1302 and 1320.
We are on the top of the homonymous hill that dominates the city, a few meters from the Castle. The austere and clean exteriors make the elegant gothic rose window made of karst stone that illuminates the three internal naves stand out even more. The mosaic ornaments that cover the apses of Byzantine inspiration are of fine workmanship. In the Chapel of the Treasure, we find the relics of San Giusto (patron saint of the city), the 13th century Crucifix of the Battuti and the famous Halberd of San Sergio, coat of arms of the city. For those who want to enjoy an unforgettable view, we suggest you visit the adjacent bell tower of the Cathedral, from which it is possible to have an extremely fascinating view of the city!
