Description
Come and visit Trieste and treat yourself to a weekend full of romance!
In our package, we will stroll together along the sidewalks of the Grand Canal and then explore the historic center with the Castle of San Giusto and the elegant shores overlooking the sea. A visit to Miramare Castle and its park is also a must.
Trieste in February and March is, if possible, even more beautiful! The days are timidly getting longer, and the bora, which often ruffles the waves of the gulf in winter, gives us a lively atmosphere with clear horizons where sunsets seem never to want to leave us...
Routes
Day 1
Our first "romantic" day in Trieste will take us through four overlapping and complementary walks. The first three routes revolve around the historic center, leading us to explore ancient Trieste, just a few meters from the sea.
1. The first route, called "Trieste city center, the elegant heart" is a gift of emotions that should definitely be on the "must-see" list. Starting from Piazza Unità d'Italia, we will move among Trieste's neoclassical buildings, always staying just a few steps from the sea—the city's defining natural element. While beautiful at any time of day, it becomes even more scenic at sunset: the colors turn fiery, and the water transforms into a mirror reflecting the hues of the buildings. This is when Trieste becomes truly magical!
2. The second route will introduce us to another unique aspect of Trieste: its HISTORIC CAFÉS, scattered throughout different districts of the city. There are several cafés, each with a story to tell—often intertwined with the city's political history. This route serves as an inspiration to keep in mind for future visits as well. We can either follow the suggested path step by step or choose the HISTORIC CAFÉ that intrigues us the most and visit it directly. Whatever we decide, let's remember that HISTORIC CAFÉS offer a truly immersive experience that engages all the senses, not just taste!
3. The third route follows the medieval city of old Tergeste (as Trieste was called in ancient times). Starting from Piazza Unità d'Italia, this walk takes us uphill to San Giusto Castle through the small, narrow streets of the Cavana district and the Jewish Ghetto. If it's already dinnertime, no worries—we'll come across various eateries, pizzerias, small restaurants, and traditional spots, all ready to offer excellent dishes, from vegan options to seafood and meat specialties.
4. The fourth and final route of the day: Trieste by night.
As we walk, we will realize that we've already seen some of these streets… but at night, spaces transform, people change, and what was open before may now be closed, and vice versa. This walk is dedicated to finding a trendy INN where we can enjoy a fun evening with friends among Trieste's most fashionable spots.
Day 2
- We begin our second day of walks with a route that starts from Piazza Unità d'Italia and follows the sea, leading us to the foot of the city's old lighthouse: the "Lanterna." Every route we propose aims to be a bit educational as well, combining usefulness with pleasure. As we stroll through Trieste, we will encounter many attractions, including the Salone degli Incanti with its cultural exhibitions, the Revoltella Museum, and the Railway Museum. When we reach the area near the Lanterna, we can tell our friends and family that we have seen the famous Pedocin—the last seaside resort in Europe where men and women have two separate beaches, divided by a wall that prevents any contact.
If we need to have breakfast, we will be spoiled for choice: the long tree-lined avenues along the waterfront are filled with cafés offering brioches, fresh juices, and breakfasts of all kinds and flavors. For coffee lovers, in addition to the historic cafés we visited the day before, we will also come across EATALY, the old wine warehouse, now completely restored and converted into a gastronomic showcase, featuring a stunning glass window overlooking the sea.
- In the afternoon, we will finally dedicate our time to Trieste’s most iconic monument — the most famous, most photographed, most searched-for, and most beloved site: Miramare Castle. We will visit its museum and its magnificent park.
