Description

Piazza Sant'Antonio Nuovo marks the end of the Grand Canal.
It is characterised by two large churches facing the fountain in the centre. On one side, there is the imposing Catholic Church of Sant'Antonio Nuovo with its majestic portico, and on the other side, there is the splendid Serbian Orthodox Church of San Spiridione. This is a very popular area for the people of Trieste, full of shops, restaurants and cafés, including the famous Caffè Stella Polare, one of the favourite cafés of writer Umberto Saba.
