Description
The Church of Sant'Antonio Nuovo is the largest Catholic building in the town centre. It is a Neoclassical church with clear references to the Pantheon in Rome, and it is characterised by imposing pronaos of the main façade overlooking the Grand Canal, which used to almost touch the steps before the small square was built. In the area above the tympanum, there are six statues of martyred saints linked to the city supported by six Ionic columns. The interior is absolutely majestic and culminates in a large central dome.
