Description
We're about to enter the 'Barcolana Village!
We pass by the Maritime Station of Trieste and begin to catch a glimpse of the sailboats moored in front of Piazza Unità d'Italia! A distinctive feature of all things Triestine is to always be in the right attire for the moment! What do I mean? We'll understand it immediately as we cross the barriers that mark the entrance to the village. During Barcolana week, a Triestine is an adept sailor! They always sport a slightly open windbreaker jacket, deliberately showing the Barcolana polo shirt underneath, whether it's from the first edition or newly purchased! Amidst the banter, the references to the most technical terms of 'handling the boat' are ever-present: "cazza la randa, te go dito de strambar, issa el gennaker",etc.
Jokes aside, as soon as you step inside the 'Barcolana Village' (which has, in recent years, expanded considerably, engulfing a substantial part of the 'Salotto buono'), you unmistakably realize that there's no other topic during this week that could hold, but then again, the Triestine spirit always has the wind at its back!"
