Description
Peculiarities of the Italo / Slovenian karst plateau, the "osmize", or "osmizze", are a cross between a village inn and a farmhouse where, in cheerful company, the people of Trieste love to consume the wines and local products of the peasant cellars such as cheeses, eggs and various sausages, always accompanied by "minimum" half a liter of wine! Osmiza literally derives from the Slovenian OSEM which means eight. In fact, there were many opening days that the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria had granted to local farmers to sell their products. Now the "Osmize" are open throughout the year, each at set times. Before the advent of the internet, the search was entrusted exclusively to the "good sight" of the visitor who had to follow, as if he were doing a real "treasure hunt", of the picturesque red arrows surrounded by ivy branches which, scattered on the road, they indicated and still indicate the destination to follow.
PLEASE NOTE: The route proposed by our portal serves to give the tourist an idea of the territorial extension of the "osmize" which, as can be seen, covers the entire territory of the province of Trieste from Muggia to Duino / Aurisina. The advice we give is to choose the open osmica closest to one of the points of interest we intend to visit. There are also some "osmize" accessible by public transport.
